Seco Tools Extends Product Lines for Application-Oriented Cutting Materials
ERKRATH, Germany, September, 2018 – Metal cutting expert Seco Tools complements its comprehensive tool range with new high-performance cutting inserts for machining demanding workpiece materials. The Seco product line enables customers to perform efficient holemaking, milling and turning operations with workpieces made of super alloys, titanium, stainless steel, hardened materials, cast iron and more.
Excellent performance in holemaking applications
Seco Tools developed the DS2050 insert grade especially for machining super alloys. The stable, square-shaped inserts use a unique wear-resistant, low-friction coating that guarantees the highest process stability for holemaking applications. These inserts combine application-oriented geometries with high edge stability to produce reliable, highly precise holes, even in extremely heat-resistant materials such as titanium and stainless steel.
New milling grades for heat-resistant materials
The MP2050 insert is designed specifically for machining highly alloyed materials used in aerospace applications. The grade shows its power when machining austenitic and martensitic stainless steel as well as titanium. The post-treated coating prevents built-up edges, even with extreme temperatures in the cutting zone, while the improved substrate effectively prevents thermal cracks. The MP2050 assures reliable machining processes, even for high cutting data and especially for dry machining.
The MS2050 insert serves as a new first choice for milling components from titanium or steel with high chrome content. Its wear-resistant PVD coating provides heat resistance and prevents built-up edges when machining highly adhesive materials such as titanium, producing 50 percent longer tool life for reduced tooling costs. The insert's positive geometries allow for efficient square shoulder, face, copy and contour milling, as well as high feed applications.
Milling mastery for cast iron
The MK2050 insert grade product family features a hard substrate that allows for predictable, controllable wear when machining cast iron, without affecting the performance of the cutting edge. The insert's reliable machining performance and long tool life offer immediate benefits on the shop floor.
Finishing cobalt chrome and titanium alloys
The TS2050 insert grade for turning applications has a TiSiN-TiAlN coating and is ideal for finishing operations. Sharp geometries, combined with an extraordinary tough substrate and hard, wear-resistant PVD coating, produce long tool life when machining demanding materials.
Maximum flexibility for hard part turning
The TH1000 and TGH1050 insert grades are ideal for turning, grooving and parting off hardened materials with maximum productivity. The inserts excel at demanding applications and interrupted cuts, with an extremely wear resistant substrate that prevents insert breakage. The chip breaker allows for efficient chip control and chip removal, using geometries that provide reliability when machining from hard part surfaces to soft ones and offering high process stability when machining thin-walled components that tend to cause vibrations.
PCBN grades for hard parts
The CH0550, CH2540 and CH3515 insert grades, along with the proven CBN060K grade, demonstrate the longstanding expertise in hard part turning that distinguishes Seco Tools. These wear-resistant, stable grades are ideal for application areas H05 to H35 with the specific cutting conditions for turning hardened steels. These inserts demonstrate precise, high-performance tool life, metal removal rate or cutting time, producing excellent surface finish quality and dimensional accuracy.
